What are the odds?

The NPR station in Portland is 91.5 FM, which also happens to be the same station for NPR in Phoenix. So I wondered, what are the odds.

It looks like there are stations between 87.7 and 107.9 and each station ends in an odd number (e.g., 94.3, 106.1, etc).  If you count all of them up, that makes 102 possible FM stations.  So if my math is correct, that means that the odds of having the same radio frequency for the NPR station in two different cities is 1/102 or 0.98%.

And so it begins

The clouds moved in this past week with off and on rain. Goodbye sun. I will see you again in about six months.

Cody

As I mentioned, I was in Cody, Wyoming for a conference last week. Continue reading Cody

Please, no more!

I have attended four conferences in the past four weeks. The first was at my office and was a joint conference between MRC and the American Red Cross from Oregon and Washington.  The second was in Salem for a Civic Engagement Conference for AMeriCorps*VISTAs stationed in Oregon.  The third was in Cody, Wyoming for a MRC Regional Conference.  This included people from Cali, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, and whatever other states are in the west.  The last was the AmeriCorps Kickoff at Portland State University which was mainly for the State and National group, but VISTAs could attend, too.  By this time Mary Rose and I had attended most of the sessions that were being offered, so we decided to play pool for our first session of the day.  ;)

Thankfully, we do not have another conference scheduled at this time until May.  Yeah!  The nice part about all of the sessions was that it allowed those in my group to get to know each other better.

Irony

In the mall Victoria’s Secret and Frederick’s of Hollywood are right next to each other. Directly across from them, a maternity store.

Forest Park

About a month ago Steve and I went hiking through Forest Park which is located on a hill on the west side of town.  It was raining a lot in the morning but by the time we got to the park it had stopped and left it nice and wet and cool.  We did not see a lot of people so it looks like it also kept people away. I have not had a chance to get back there yet, but am looking forward to going back. Continue reading Forest Park

Gone Fishing

I leave today for a 3-day conference in Salem.  I get back Saturday night and on Tuesday I fly out to Cody, Wyoming for a regional conference for a few days.  It is currently 41 degrees in Cody so this will be my first taste of winter.  I am used to it being cold in January, not the beginning of October.  What the heck have I gotten myself into?

Oh, the sweet pleasure!

I cooked tonight!  Oh, how I missed spices and flavors.

On and Offs

The past two days were spent at a conference for my VISTA group and another VISTA group run by the Red Cross.  Each day was split into a morning and afternoon session with three different offerings for each session.  Stuff like volunteer management, building sustainable programs, public speaking, facilitating and grant writing.  Continue reading On and Offs

2nd times a charm

Today I went to the food stamps office for the second time to attempt to get food stamps.  The first time was a hit and miss.  I got shot down by the person at the front desk for I was told that I needed to write down my roommate’s names, I needed bank statements, rental agreement, utility bills, passport/ssn card, and who knows what else.  Needless to say, I was a bit pissed for the application did not state that any of this was needed.
