In two weeks, I will be halfway thought my year of service. As with most things, the time has gone by slow and fast at the same time. There have been a lot of great moments, but I cannot think of any bad moments right off hand. Well, maybe the food stamp process, but that was minor. Continue reading Halfway
You may or may not have heard the rumor that I am seeing someone. I am here to set the record straight. Hell has frozen over and I am seeing someone! Can you believe it?!?! Continue reading Hell has frozeneth overeth
Saturday, Steve and I went for hike at Silver Falls State Park which is located east of Salem. Due to a late night of partying the night before, we did not get going until 2pm. We got to the park at 3:30pm and learned that it closes at 5pm so we just did a quick jaunt down to the closest falls, South Falls, and hiked a little beyond. South Falls is 177 feet tall and produces tons of spray and mist that wreaked havoc on the camera lens and the ensuing photos. We plan to go back another time so we can hike the full loop trail and see all of the falls.
While driving down I-5, we saw a sign just north of Salem that stated that we were crossing the 45th parallel. This means that I am living an equal distance from the equator and the north pole. Kind of cool.
This weekend I went for a hike in the Columbia River Gorge area at a place called Eagle Creek. Taking the off ramp to Eagle Creek I immediately noticed snow along the sides of the road and it got me thinking, have I ever hiked in snow before? Well, if not, I can now check it off of my list of things accomplished.
I have realized that I have started a tradition when it comes to x-mas. For the last two years I have been hiking on x-mas day. Two years ago I was hiking in the cloud forest in Costa Rica. Last year I was hiking with Linda in Texas. So I decided that it was my moral imperative to continue the tradition this year. Continue reading X-mas
Yes, it snowed today in Portland. First time this winter and we will have to wait and see if it is the last. Also I will have to wait and see if I have to go into work tomorrow or ‘work from home’.
Most of us already know that it’s NOT socially acceptable to talk during a movie. But to those of us who weren’t born in a barn, these rude movie-goers are still a constant burden. It’s time to fight back, dirty.
This article lists six rules “we need to deem socially acceptable to assimilate into our communal fabric.” I wonder if movie theaters and movie studios realize that this is why they are losing money. Well, that and the fact that most of the movies they make suck.
On my walk to work I walk through a large parking lot that is used by a movie theater and the mall. In the morning when it is empty, crows and seagulls fight over the food that was left in the parking lot. It is so weird to hear the seagull sound in the middle of a city. I feel like I should be at the beach when I hear it.
And I bet at least one of you thought I was going to talk about the band!
