This article lists six rules “we need to deem socially acceptable to assimilate into our communal fabric.” I wonder if movie theaters and movie studios realize that this is why they are losing money. Well, that and the fact that most of the movies they make suck.

On Monday we started having issues with our internet at home. Some sites we could access fine, but others we could not. The problem was still occurring on Tuesday so I called Clear and nothing was wrong on their end. I unplugged the modem and router and still the problem occurred. Today I decided to plug my computer directly into the modem and voila, I can access all the sites again. So, it was now time to figure out what was wrong with the router, which is a D-Link DI-624 for what it is worth.

I started getting worried that the guy I bought it from might of hacked the router and was tracking everything we were doing, including our user id and passwords. Some of the sites that we could not get to were ones that required login access like gmail and banks. Yes, the guy I bought the router from was quite a bit on the shady side.

After some searching, I came across an article from 2005 (man, that seems like a long time ago) where a guy was having the same problems with the same router that I have. The solution was to change the MTU number. And I am sure that your response is the same as mine – what the heck is an MTU? Basically, this indicates how much data the router can receive at a time. Apparently there is an upper cap of 1500 and that is what most routers are set to, including mine. Apparently even though my router is set to this, it has decided that it does not want to accept this information at once so I now needed to find the new amount that it was ok with.

I found another article from DSLReports that allowed you to ping their site using different MTU numbers so you can figure out which value is the right one for your router. It turns out that I had to drop mine to 1400 and everything stopped working again. Yeah!

In a way, this gave me an idea of what it would be like if net neutrality did not exist and, boy, am I glad it does!

Some people believe that net neutrality is just about ISP’s capping the amount of bandwidth that you can use. I could handle this, but unfortunately, this is not all they want to do.

The internet is on the verge of going down the path the newspapers and radio went. These started off with a large amount of people using the media for entertainment or to express their thoughts on particular subjects. Then, the power’s that be decided that they needed to control this avenue of information dispersion and made it more expensive or regulated so that only the big business’ could afford to use the medium anymore. This is what the internet is now facing.

I found a good video that explains this in a much better way than I ever could. Please watch and pass the word along so we do not lose the internet.

According to I Power, they have gathered information from people working within ISPs that tell them that the companies are going to turn the net into a subscription based service like cable/satellite TV by 2012. What does this mean? All those independent blog and media sites that you like to visit will die for they will not be available unless you want to pay big bucks to get them and very few, if any, will be able to do this. No more start-ups like google, youtube, myspace, facebook, etc, and especially no more blog sites like this lame one or other ones that are entertaining or that actually do research and investigations into items that the MSM never touches. Only the big companies like ABC, NBC, microsoft, disney, etc will have the power to create web sites that we can use.

Wow, can’t wait for that crap to happen.

Below is an image the I Power had an their site that gives you an idea of what the future will be like.

I am posting this mainly because it pisses me off. I am also posting this in hopes that someone reads this that has contacts somewhere that can investigate the I Power’s info further and spread the news. If you can help, please do!

The Boston Globe decided to figure out what else could have been bought with the $456 billion that taxpayers have spent on the Iraq war. The 9th item is the one the struck a chord with me:

$54 billion a year would eliminate starvation and malnutrition globally by 2015, while $30 billion would provide a year of primary education for every child on earth

At the upper range of those estimates, the $456 billion cost of the war could have fed and educated the world’s poor for five and a half years

I always find it amazing how war can bring in so much money, but people are not willing to spend the same money on education, healthcare, etc.

WTF! Seriously, is someone so desperate as to blame soy for an increase in gays? You can find the article here. Below are some excerpts:

There’s a slow poison out there that’s severely damaging our children and threatening to tear apart our culture …. The dangerous food I’m speaking of is soy. Soybean products are feminizing, and they’re all over the place. You can hardly escape them anymore.

Soy is feminizing, and commonly leads to a decrease in the size of the penis, sexual confusion and homosexuality. That’s why most of the medical (not socio-spiritual) blame for today’s rise in homosexuality must fall upon the rise in soy formula and other soy products.

I guess this means if you are a veggie or have food allergies to milk, you are gay or will become gay.

I guess I better start paying attention more to the boys and not the girls…

Just needed to get this off of my chest.

I have been trying to burn CDs lately and it is amazing at how freaking slow the new itunes has become. First, it takes at least a couple minutes just to open. Then, when I insert a CD, itunes may or may not add it to its list of devices. If the cd does show up, I can burn it just fine. But when I go to eject it by pressing the itunes button the cd ejects and then itunes just hangs for several minutes. I get impatient waiting for something to happen and just kill the service.

Overall, I have found that the best way to record a cd is to close itunes, insert the cd, when the ‘what do you want to do’ window appears, select import into itunes and then take a break and go do someting. Come back about 5 minutes later and itunes should be open and ready to record. After recoding, just close itunes and start the process all over again. Note, sometimes after closing itunes, the service takes up 100% of my cpu, so I have to kill it yet one more time.

I even downloaded itunes again and reinstalled, but to no avail. I looked online and others have complained about the bugginess of version 7. Hopefully, a fixed version will be released soon. I have been using itunes since it came to the pc, but this is enough to make me look for something else.
