Green Monster

With all of the rain that we have been having, plus the fact that it is spring and things grow in the spring, the ranch has changed from a brown looking land to a green flourishing land.  Unfortunately, this means that we can not see where we are walking while walking around a lot of places on the ranch, which is bad since snakes are out and about.

Luckily, Linda got a new weed wacker, for her old one could not be fixed, so she has been out there making trails to all of the plants that she needs to water and clearing the areas around the trailers.  On Friday, I took my first stab at doing this.

My objective was to make paths to the trees up on the hill so we can water them.  Easy enough.

One thing I quickly remembered was that there are prickly pear cactus all over the place.  And with the grass, flowers and weeds being a couple feet tall they were not always easy to spot, so, needless to say, I wacked quite a few cactus.  How I didn’t get impaled by any of the prickers is a mystery, but one that I am thankful for.

So two hours later I called it a day.  My wrists were a little sore, but I was pretty good at switching which side was holding the weed wacker, so it could have been a lot worse.  The one thing that I did not foresee were my arms hurting and shaking from holding the weed wacker.  It was real fun trying to drink out of a cup with my arm shaking.  My arms are still a little soar today.

And the front of my clothes are completely green.
