I went for a drive this weekend and noticed a lot of tall (100-200 ft) cell phone towers along the country side. I also noticed that it was windy out and it got me thinking, why are there no wind turbines on these cell phone towers? I am not talking about the traditional windmill looking turbines for that would probably not work. I am talking about smaller vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT) that could be attached to the sides of the towers. The energy the VAWTs create could then be used to help power the tower.
For that matter, why not put these VAWTs on the big power line towers. There are thousands of towers all over the country that they could be attached to. A new line would probably need to be attached to the towers that just the VAWTs plug into and this line could then connect to the rest of the grid at power stations.
Just a thought…
Interesting possibilities. YOU should seek out a “think” tank group, that’s where you belong.
Go to the cell and power companies and pitch your idea… why not indeed!
