Break Time

Tuesday, 11 December

My class at 8am at the beauty salon went well today. Started off with a little panic for two extra people showed up for the class and the class is only supposed to be for the salon workers. Even Sarah, who was observing me, had no idea who they two where. Luckily, using my originals, I had enough handouts for everyone. Well, except for one exercise and Katie was nice enough to write out another copy while I was teaching. My context this morning was cost/price using how much and I used a beauty salon theme for I figured it would help them understand it better and it worked out well. I had very crude stick figure drawings to demonstrate hair cut, color, extensions, pedicure and such – we all had a nice laugh and for the most part they were able to figure it out. The only one that was hard for them was the hair cut but they eventually got it. I am going to go back in a couple days and ask how much a hair cut costs for I need to get my fro chopped down.

I went to school afterwards with the intention of working on my lesson for Friday but whenever I tried I could not focus. So I decided to take the day off after the hectic day I had yesterday. Instead I got caught up on email, posted pictures from the beach trip and friday night, and posted more stories to my blog. I even chatted with Jason for awhile via IM. I started looking for jobs again but I still have no idea where I want to go. I would like to start with a teaching job that is only short term so I can try it and see how it goes. If I like it then I know I should look for a longer length job. Otherwise, with the job being short-term, I can get out of fairly easily and look for the next thing to try. A lot of people are talking about Buenos Ares. Maybe I should look there.

After dinner I read my book and fell asleep probably around 8:30. Blythe woke me up around 9:30 when she came by to ask for help on her lesson. I tried my best to help her but my head was so groggy. Afterwards I tried to go back to sleep but I couldn’t, so I stayed up reading until about midnight. I am reading a book called ‘Dear John’ that is fiction but is written as a narrative in the style of an autobiography. I connected with the characters and so I have been reading it a lot. I will probably finish it in the next day or so.

I have an acquaintance who lives in Buenos Ares – his dad was friends with my dad when they were in the Navy together. They’re really wonderful people and I’m sure he would be willing to help you out with getting oriented if you wound up there. Just let me know and I’ll get you two connected.
